Sheffield United - Scunthorpe United preview - Basham to blunt Blades

Sheffield United will be without captain Chris Basham for their home clash with Scunthorpe.

Basham was shown a straight red card just before half-time in the 2-1 defeat at Port Vale and begins his three-game suspension.

On-loan defender Paddy McCarthy is set to feature for the last time before returning to Crystal Palace.

Blades boss Nigel Clough could again be without Ryan Flynn (hamstring), Craig Alcock (back), Ben Davies (foot) and James Wallace (groin/hamstring).

Scunthorpe are hopeful Luke Williams will be fit to return to their starting line-up.

The on-loan Middlesbrough forward missed the Boxing Day victory over Rochdale with a thigh injury and will be assessed ahead of the trip to Bramall Lane.

Mark Robins has revealed Billy Kee is working through a "personal issue" and will continue to be unavailable for selection, while the Iron boss has concerns over other members of his squad.

"There's a lot of injury and illness working its way through the camp," he said.

The game is subject to a 10am pitch inspection following heavy snow in South Yorkshire.
