Stevenage Borough 1 : 0 Exeter City - Lee wins it for Stevenage

Charlie Lee struck a late winner as Stevenage claimed their first win in four league games with a tense 1-0 victory over Exeter.

Both teams passed up several opportunities before Lee, on as an early substitute for the injured Lee Barnard, kept his composure to inflict on the Grecians their first defeat since their FA Cup humiliation at Warrington Town.

The first chance fell to Stevenage when Dean Parrett battled to the byline and cut the ball back for Ryan Brunt, whose backheel from close range was kept out by Exeter goalkeeper James Hamon.

Alex Nicholls came within a whisker of giving the Grecians the lead when he cut inside from the left before bending an excellent shot against the bar.

The bar was then shaking for the second time when Lee's half-volley just didn't dip early enough to find the back of the net.

But Lee proved to be Stevenage's hero with six minutes left when he controlled Tom Pett's cross in the penalty area before sliding a low shot into the far corner.
