Redknapp seeking loan striker

Harry Redknapp says his midweek trip to Asia to meet QPR owner Tony Fernandes was productive on a number of topics.

Redknapp revealed a number of topics were discussed at the Kuala Lumpur get together, including the chance to freshen his side in the loan market during next month's transfer window.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's home game against West Bromwich, he said:"I've just got back from a good positive meeting with Tony Fernandes.

The meetings were really interesting. We spoke at length about a number of things, scouting included, and talked at length about the new stadium, training ground, transfer window and if there's a loan or two out there we are interested.

"I went over to see Tony and Ruben. We had a good, positive meeting talking about players, new stadium, training ground. It was well worth going.

"He's busy so I went over. We just discussed lots of different aspects of the club. We had a good day. It was interesting.

We're not looking to spend. We spent some money in the summer so were not that far short. So if we can find another striker, to add to the ones weve got already, thats an area were looking at.

'Budget'
But he dismissed reports that former Tottenham striker Jermaine Defoe could return from his MLS club to Loftus Road for the second half of the season.

Hes an excellent player but I dont know if he fits in to our budget to be honest," he said."It's always difficult to do business in January. It's a really tough time to get good players in. Clubs usually dont let good players go in January."

On Saturday's game, he said: "It's a crucial period of matches for us. We've got home games against teams that are around us.They will provide a tough test. We've had big games recently and come through them with flying colours.

We're confident when we're at home. Our home record has been good. It's a really great place to play.

But Rangers must take on Albion, who sit three points and four places above them in the table, without right wing-back Mauricio Isla.

"It's a blow to lose him because he's been playing really well recently," said Redknapp."Mauricio is back in Chile with his partner giving birth soon. We're pretty much as we were with injuries.
