Wigan Athletic vs Rotherham United preview - McClean set for striking role

Winger James McClean may be chosen to lead Wigan's attack again against Rotherham.

The Republic of Ireland international shone in the defeat to Watford and looks set to continue in his new role, with Latics desperate to end a seven-game winless streak.

Oriol Riera, who has recently had an ankle problem, was left out at Vicarage Road but said on Twitter this week that he was "already in shape", while fellow forward Martyn Waghorn (shoulder) is still another week away.

Winger Shaun Maloney may return to the starting line-up after coming on as a substitute last time out following his illness.

Rotherham will have Lee Frecklington back in their squad.

The midfielder missed last weekend's 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest due to a virus, but he has fully recovered and is likely to be on the bench.

Boss Steve Evans named an unchanged side for the first time this season against Forest and could be tempted to keep faith after a promising display, with Kirk Broadfoot (shoulder) still sidelined.

However, lack of goals has been a problem, with just one in seven games, so Evans could mix his forward line up with Jonson Clarke-Harris, Jordan Bowery and Matt Derbyshire all in contention for a start.
