Wolfsburg - SC Paderborn 07 preview - Zhang takes chances with Wolves

Wolfsburg have announced the imminent signing of Chinese international Xizhe Zhang on the eve of their clash with Paderborn in the Bundesliga.

The midfielder was due to arrive in Wolfsburg on Saturday and sign terms which will see him join the Wolves' pack from January.

"We just have to resolve some minor details and we're confident that the transfer will go through and we will be able to present him as a new signing next week," said Wolfsburg's director of sport Klaus Allofs on his club's website.

"He's a young player with great potential. Even if it's a big step-up from China to the Bundesliga, we believe he can make it.

"Of course we're going to give him all the chance to do that."

Zhang will be joining a side still in with a chance of winning the Bundesliga this season, even more so if they can win their eighth game in their last nine on Sunday.

"We have the advantage of playing the last game of the weekend because that allows us to see all the other results and what they mean for us," said Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking.

"That could give us even more motivation to consolidate our second spot."

Hecking recognised at the same time that it is not going to be easy against one of the revelations of the Bundesliga season, newcomers Paderborn.

"They are certainly not going to come here to gift us the points," Hecking said. "They led in Leverkusen until late on and that should be enough of a warning for us."

Paderborn coach Andre Breitenreiter confirmed that at his press conference on Friday.

"We always want to play our best and then we have the chance to get points in every game we play," he said.
