Torino advanced to the knockout stages of the Europa League with a 5-1 comeback triumph over nine-man Copenhagen in Denmark on Thursday.

The victory allowed the Turin outfit to finish second in their pool and join Group B winners Club Brugge in the next round of the competition.b

The Italians fell behind in the sixth minute when Daniel Amartey scored for Copenhagen, but everything went downhill for the Danish side after.

The visitors pulled level in the 15th minute through Jose Martinez's goal.

Copenhagen defender Mikael Antonsson was shown a straight red in the 30th minute for a last-man foul on Martinez.

Ten minutes later the hosts were reduced to nine-men when defender Mathias Jorgensen brought down Carvalho Amauri inside the area and was shown a red card.

Amauri converted the resulting penalty to put Toro in front for good and the visitors struck three times in the space of eight minutes early in the second half for a convincing win.

Copenhagen, who had already waved goodbye to progressing to the last 32 of the competition after collecting just four points from their opening five matches, had a dream start against Torino.

Amartey pounced on a loose ball in the box and squeezed the ball past Toro goalkeeper Daniele Padelli.

Martinez then equalised when he drilled a left-footed effort from 20 yards towards the far post and out of Copenhagen goalkeeper Stephan Andersen's reach.

Following the sendings off of Antonsson and Jorgensen, and Amauri's successful penalty, Toro cruised.

Two minutes into the second half, Omar El Kaddouri set up Martinez in the box and he drilled a left-footed strike past Andersen for his second of the evening.

Toro made it 4-1 in the 49th minute when Gaston Silva's perfect cross found Matteo Darmian in the area and he beat Andersen with a right-footed shot towards the near post.

Gaston Silva wrapped up the win four minutes later when he got behind El Kaddouri's pass to hit the ball from six yards towards the bottom right corner of goal.
