Bristol City 1 - 0 AFC Telford United - Agard sends City through

Posted Monday, December 08, 2014 by PA

Kieran Agard spared Bristol City's blushes with an injury-time winner as the League One leaders beat spirited AFC Telford 1-0 in a closely-fought FA Cup second-round tie at Ashton Gate.

The striker pounced to net at the far post when Aaron Wilbraham headed on a Luke Freeman corner to leave the plucky visitors devastated.

Even then substitute Sam Smith twice almost equalised for the Conference club, shooting inches wide and heading straight at Frank Fielding in the closing moments.

Twice in the space of a minute Fielding had pulled off fine saves to deny Andy Todd in the second half and Telford could consider themselves unlucky losers.

The first half saw the non-leaguers almost go in front on 10 minutes when Fielding made a good save from Mike Grogan's near-post header.

Telford keeper Jonathan Hedge did well to smother an Agard shot and an Aaron Wilbraham header, but in general the visitors defended well until Agard broke the deadlock.
