Mario Gotze has raised an astonishing €2 million for charity by auctioning off the Nike boot he wearing when he scored Germany’s winning goal at the 2014 World Cup.
Gotze had previously explained the mint condition he had kept the boot in since the final in Brazil:
I have never washed the shoe. It’s still in the same condition as it was in Rio, when I left the stadium with it.
There is still grass on it. I have never put on the shoe after the final. I have kept it safe in my house.
The boot was sold on a German TV show called “A Heart For Children”.
