Stade Reims - Guingamp preview - Vasseur keen for more of the same

Reims boss Jean-Luc Vasseur has challenged his side to reproduce the performance they put in at Lyon on Thursday when they host Guingamp on Sunday - but with a different result.

Reims went down 2-1 at home to high-flying Lyon, an injury-time own goal from goalkeeper Johny Placide denying them a hard-earned point.

That was the first defeat Vasseur's side had suffered in eight Ligue 1 games dating back to September, a run which has taken them to ninth in the table.

Next opponents Guingamp in contrast are one point and one place above the bottom three and Vasseur wants his team to maintain their current level.

"We dominated the first half and the second in Lyon," he was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

"We were up against great players and the leading goalscorer (Alexandre Lacazette) and that made the difference. I'm very satisfied with my players, even if Johny made a small error - he has made saves to keep us in other matches.

"We will learn from this. A match is played until the 94th minute, but I liked what I saw from my team. We have to continue like this."

Unlike Reims, Guingamp go into the clash on the back of a win thanks to a thumping 5-1 success Caen on Wednesday.

That was a timely three points, though, as it followed four straight defeats in all competitions.
