Diabate double earns Bordeaux win

Bordeaux remain in the hunt for the Champions League places in Ligue 1 after a 3-2 win over Lorient at the Stade Chaban-Delmas on Saturday night.

They had to come from behind twice, with Wahbi Khazri and substitute Chieck Diabate cancelling out strikes from Benjamin Jeannot and Vincent Le Goff either side of half-time.

Diabate then added a quickfire third to wrap up the win, which takes Bordeaux up to fourth above Lyon, who play on Sunday, but they remain behind St Etienne who won 1-0 at home to Bastia.

Les Girondins needed goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso to save a late penalty last week as they drew 0-0 at Metz and he was pressed into early action again to keep Lorient at bay.

The former Toulouse keeper showed bravery to claim Mehdi Mostefa's headed effort in the sixth minute, but was left in a heap on the floor for his troubles. He had to be replaced by substitute keeper Azbe Jug shortly after.

Despite that early blow, there were signs that the hosts were starting to click after 20 minutes, with Nicolas Maurice-Belay and Thomas Toure both going close, before Jug was left picking it out of his net.

There was little he could do about Jeannot's strike, though, as the Lorient man picked up a kind deflection off the wall from Raphael Guerreiro's direct free-kick and slotted home just after the half-hour mark.

With Bordeaux's unbeaten home record under threat the hosts rallied before the break and managed to make the pressure count in the 43rd minute.

Lorient keeper Benjamin Lecomte completely missed Diego Rolan's ball into the box and Khazri was left with an easy tap-in to level the scores.

At that point it seemed Bordeaux would go on to win comfortably, but it was Lorient who struck next six minutes after the interval.

Le Goff remained cool to fire his first goal of the season past Jug after being put clean through by Walid Mesloub's through-ball.

With Bordeaux feeling their opportunity slipping away from them, Diabate entered the fray for Rolan around the hour mark - and six minutes later he had won the game.

It only took the Malian striker three minutes to give Bordeaux their second equaliser of the evening, rising highest to head beyond Lecomte from Thomas Toure's cross.

Three minutes later he was celebrating the winning goal - a fine curled effort from 10 yards out after good work from Jaroslav Plasil and Khazri.

Diabate was inches away from his hat-trick when his header from Gregory Sertic's delivery went just wide, but he will be satisfied with two as Bordeaux made it three games unbeaten.
