Reading vs Bolton Wanderers preview - Injuries rock Royals

Posted Friday, December 05, 2014 by PA

Reading have been hit by a new spate of injuries ahead of the visit of Bolton.

Forwards Jamie Mackie (hamstring) and Pavel Pogrebnyak (calf) are the latest casualties along with defender Anton Ferdinand, who only came on as an 89th-minute substitute at Norwich last weekend and still found time to pick up a calf problem.

All three will miss out and join long-term absentees Hope Akpan (shoulder), Danny Guthrie (calf) and Jem Karacan (knee) on the sidelines.

But boss Nigel Adkins can welcome back defender Alex Pearce, who missed the 2-1 win at Carrow Road through suspension.

Eidur Gudjohnsen will go straight into the Bolton squad after rejoining the club 14 years since he left them for Chelsea.

The 36-year-old former Barcelona forward agreed terms on a deal until the end of the season on **Thursday/Friday** after impressing on a trial basis.

Josh Vela is expected to continue at right-back because Kevin McNaughton continues to be troubled by a hamstring problem, while Hayden White is back at the club after a slight knee problem cut short his loan stay at Bury.

Neil Lennon has no other injury worries and Andy Lonergan is expected to keep his place in goal despite the return to fitness of Adam Bogdan (fingers).
