One of the top stories over the weekend was the tragic death of a Deportivo fan before their game against Atletico Madrid. The fan, known as Jimmy, was attacked before being thrown in the river Manzanares.

The awful incident has provoked a discussion about ultra culture and how to stop these incidents from occurring.

After their last-gasp win over Valencia on Sunday night, Barcelona midfielder Xavi had his say on the matter when he was asked for his opinion by reporters.

He didn’t know what solution could be put in place, saying: “I don’t know if there is any way to stop it. These things should never be allowed to happen.

"I just want to express my condolences to the family and Deportivo.”

In theme with the zeitgeist of hooliganism in La Liga, a Valencia fan reacted to Sergio Busquets’ late winner by throwing a bottle at the head of Lionel Messi.
