Celta Vigo 0 : 1 Eibar - Manu gives Eibar surprise win

Manu's smart first-half finish earned Eibar a shock 1-0 win at Celta Vigo on Saturday night.

The forward on loan from Sevilla tucked home a through pass just moments after seeing an even better chance saved by goalkeeper Sergio.

Celta could find no way to break down their opponents, who bounced back from two straight defeats to move up to 10th in the Primera Division.

Victory would have taken Celta level on points with Sevilla in fifth, but, after a strong start, their challenge faded.

Joaquin Larrivey's shot was parried by Xabi Irureta after only three minutes and the visiting goalkeeper produced an even better stop to keep out a Jonny header

Manu should have put Eibar in front shortly before the half-hour mark when poor defending allowed him a shot from six yards, but the alert Sergio did well to smother his effort.

Manu made amends less than a minute later, though, when, picked out by Mikel Arruabarrena's clipped pass into the area, he guided a left-footed shot inside the near post.

Celta tried to muster a response in the second half, but failed to give Irureta too much cause for concern.

Nolito got his head to a Jonny cross, but directed his effort over the bar, while Irureta was able to parry Charles' long-range effort.

Celta have now suffered consecutive 1-0 defeats and not won since their shock success at Barcelona at the start of November. It does not get any easier for them, either, with a trip to Real Madrid next up in the league.
