Brown bags Vale a point

Michael Brown's injury-time goal earned Port Vale a point in an entertaining 2-2 draw against struggling Gillingham.

Dany N'Guessan fired the visitors in front after 18 minutes with a low shot from the edge of the box.

Former Sunderland defender John Egan equalised for the Gills with a brilliant 30-yard effort shortly before the half-hour mark, and then headed the hosts in front from Michael Doughty's corner with 55 minutes on the clock.

Former Vale player Doug Loft sliced his shot wide from an acute angle, and Jake Hessenthaler's half-volley sailed just wide as the Gills looked on course to claim their second win in their last three League One fixtures.

However, Brown equalised in the fourth minute of stoppage time with a deflected shot from the edge of the box that slipped through Gills goalkeeper Stuart Nelson's hands.

Vale, who have only recorded two league wins on the road from a possible 10 this season, had earlier hit the post through substitute Colin Daniel, while Louis Dodds struck the crossbar in the 90th minute.
