The king of Brazilian football, Pelé, was diagnosed with a urinary infection after going to hospital in São Paulo for a follow-up appointment to the operation which he underwent two weeks ago to have kidney stones removed, his aides have told the local press.
GloboEsporte reports that the 74-year-old will be treated with antibiotics and that his doctors have yet to decide how long he will have to stay in hospital. Pelé was admitted to the Albert Einstein Hospital on 12th November with severe abdominal pain caused by kidney stones, which were removed in an operation the following day.
The former footballer was discharged on 15th November, and has since been resting at his home in the coastal city of Guarujá, around 100 kilometres from São Paulo. The hospital did not immediately release any information on the state of Pelé's health or reveal whether he would have to spend the night in the clinic.
