Accrington Stanley 2 : 1 Cambridge United - Mingoia at the double for Stanley

Piero Mingoia scored his first league double as Accrington moved towards the play-off places with a 2-1 win over Cambridge.

Winger Mingoia had fallen out of favour under new boss John Coleman but came back into the side for the midweek FA Cup win over Notts County.

He retained his place and responded with a goal in each half to move Stanley into the top half of the table.

Mingoia struck after 34 minutes when he got on the end of John O'Sullivan's far-post cross and sent a volley into the bottom corner of the net.

And he got the second goal after 72 minutes when his 15-yard shot took a deflection to catch out goalkeeper Chris Dunn and bounce home.

Stanley could have had more with Sean Maguire's strike tipped onto the crossbar by Dunn, while the stopper also denied O'Sullivan and the lively Mingoia - who could have had a hat-trick.

Cambridge offered little up front until the 90th minute when defender Michael Nelson finished superbly from 25 yards and they did then throw everything at Stanley but the Reds held on.
