Fleetwood Town 0 : 1 Walsall - Sawyers ends Fleetwood run
Posted Sunday, November 23, 2014 by PA
A Romaine Sawyers strike ended a nine-month unbeaten home run for Fleetwood as Walsall ran out 1-0 winners at Highbury.
Fleetwood could have taken the lead when Martin Paterson created space for himself 15 yards out and saw his a curling effort tipped behind by a Richard O'Donnell in the Saddlers goal.
But it was the visitors who grabbed the lead, Sawyers taking advantage of a mix-up in the Fleetwood defence, picking the ball up at the back post and lashing a low shot past Chris Maxwell.
Fleetwood were playing themselves into trouble and were lucky not to fall further behind after the break.
Chris Maxwell's scuffed goal-kick fell to Sawyers 30 yards out but he was unable to fire it back past the keeper.
Paterson rounded O'Donnell late on only to be frustrated by Paul Downing on the line.
