Stevenage Borough 5 : 1 Cheltenham Town - Stevenage crush Cheltenham
Posted Sunday, November 16, 2014 by PA
Chris Beardsley and Lee Barnard both struck twice as a rampant Stevenage hammed Cheltenham 5-1 to move into the top half of Sky Bet League Two.
It had been the Robins dishing out the thrashing last week as they routed Swindon 5-0 in the FA Cup, but this time they were on the receiving end right from the first whistle.
Stevenage found themselves 2-0 up after just eight minutes when Beardsley tapped in after Barnard's header was saved by Trevor Carson before Charlie Lee bent a wonderful shot into the top corner.
The match was effectively over before half-time as Cheltenham's defence switched off completely as the unmarked Beardsley knocked in his second from Lee's header across.
Barnard then got his name on the scoresheet when he turned in Charlie Adams' ball across goal before Byron Harrison claimed a consolation for Cheltenham with 14 minutes left.
There was still time for the Boro to score a fifth when Adam Marriott charged down Carson's clearance before putting the ball on a plate for Barnard.
