Morecambe 1 : 0 Bury - Ellison earns Shrimps shock scalp

Kevin Ellison was Morecambe's goal hero as they shocked high flying Bury at the Globe Arena.

The veteran frontman scored 20 minutes from time to earn his struggling side their first win since September.

Ellison took advantage of a mistake from Scott Loach who could only parry a shot from Jack Redshaw into the path of the Morecambe striker who made no mistake from six yards out.

Ellison should have added a second seven minutes from time when he was put through on goal but he dragged his shot wide of the target.

He was almost made to pay for his miss when Nathan Cameron headed a right-wing corner just wide in the closing stages.

The first half ended goalless despite some free flowing football from both sides.

Morecambe had the better of the early stages with Ellison heading over Mark Hughes' cross at the far post while Paul Mullin forced Loach into an excellent low save with a shot from the left-hand side of the area.

Bury, with Danny Mayor in particular looking sharp, began to exert their authority with Nicky Adams firing over from the edge of the box and Cameron heading a corner just wide.
