Plymouth Argyle 2 : 0 AFC Fylde - Argyle safely through to round two

Plymouth avoided a first-round shock in the FA Cup as they beat Vanarama Conference North side AFC Fylde 2-0.

Goals from Peter Hartley and Marvin Morgan ensured Argyle progression against Dave Challinor's men.

Argyle took a 28th-minute lead after a spell of intense pressure was rewarded with Hartley heading home Oliver Norburn's corner at the far post.

Hartley came close to adding another goal minutes later but his angled drive from 25 yards was deflected wide.

Fylde keeper Ben Hinchliffe then made a full length save to turn Lee Cox's 20 yard strike around a post as Plymouth continued to surge forward.

At the other end Coasters' forward Richie Allen fired wide after racing through and then Allen's inch perfect ball set up Michael Barnes, who was denied by a superb Luke McCormick save.

Allen also came close to scoring in the second half with a dipping half volley that flew inches wide.

But Plymouth put the game beyond doubt with 21 minutes left as, from another Norburn corner, Carl McHugh headed goalwards and Marvin Morgan turned the ball home from close range.
