Sampdoria vs Fiorentina preview - Mesbah wants reaction from Samp

Sampdoria defender Djamel Mesbah has called on his team-mates to bounce back from their first defeat of the Serie A campaign by taking three points against Fiorentina on Sunday.

The Genoa outfit suffered a 1-0 reverse at Inter Milan on Wednesday to see their eight-match unbeaten run end.

Samp have collected just two points in their last three league games and are fifth in the standings heading into this weekend.

"We are disappointed to have lost at Inter," Mesbah said. "But sooner or later we had to lose a game.

"The important thing is to put this loss firmly behind us and get back on track immediately.

"We face a difficult game against a strong team like Fiorentina is and must be ready for battle.

"We will have the support of our fans and we want to continue to do well at the Marassi."

Samp are unbeaten at the Luigi Ferraris stadium and take on a Fiorentina side that has won just once on the road so far, a 1-0 triumph at Atalanta on September 21.

The Viola are in mid-table and three points behind Samp.

The Florence outfit travel to Genoa on the back of a 3-0 midweek win over Udinese, their third victory of the campaign.

"We played a really good game against Udinese," midfielder Borja Valero said. "We must give continuity to our recent performances in order to climb up in the standings."

Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella welcomes back German striker Mario Gomez, who has recovered from a thigh injury he sustained in September, and he will start on the bench.

Samp coach Sinisa Mihajlovic will be hoping to have midfielder Nenad Krsticic available after he sat out Wednesday's match with a muscular problem.
