Goals from Ryan Leonard and David Worrall earned Southend a 2-1 win at Mansfield to end a miserable run of form.

Leonard hammered home after Mansfield failed to clear a 16th minute corner before Worrall doubled their lead on 70 minutes.

Mansfield pulled a goal back through Ollie Palmer on 77 minutes but it was not enough.

The visitors started brightly and should have gone ahead on four minutes when Barry Corr fired wide from four yards.

Myles Weston then saw a goal-bound effort blocked on 12 minutes as the visitors grew in confidence.

Leonard put Southend ahead on 16 minutes when his powerful drive crashed in off the bar from Michael Timlin's corner.

Sascha Studer then produced two superb first-half saves to deny Corr and keep struggling Mansfield in the game.

David Worrall fired past Studer from a tight angle on 70 minutes to put Southend in firm control.

Oliver Palmer slotted home after Jakub Sokolik switched off to give Mansfield brief hope on 77 minutes.
