Skipper Connor Goldson scored a stunning winner as in-form Shrewsbury came from behind to beat Portsmouth 2-1, a fourth successive victory for Micky Mellon's side.

Pompey took an early lead after Mickey Demetriou handled Craig Westcarr's corner and Jed Wallace confidently fired in the penalty for Portsmouth's first goal away from Fratton Park since the end of August.

Shrewsbury gradually settled and pulled level in the 13th minute. Pompey failed to clear a free-kick and when it fell to James Wesolowski, the Australian midfielder hammered home his first goal for the club.

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro, a midweek hat-trick hero for Shrewsbury against Bury, might have had his side in front by the interval.

But the Frenchman flicked a header wide from Jack Grimmer's cross after also seeing a header gathered by goalkeeper Paul Jones.

Shrewsbury drove forward in search of a winner in the second half and it arrived in the 72nd minute.

Central defender Goldson brought the ball forward and took aim from 30 yards with an effort which flew into the top corner of the net.

Pompey might have snatched a late equaliser but sub Patrick Agyemang's header was hooked off the line by Portsmouth old boy Liam Lawrence.
