Colchester United 2 : 1 Chesterfield - Spireites undone by Sears

Freddie Sears scored a superb winner to help Colchester beat Chesterfield 2-1 as they claimed back-to-back home wins for the first time in more than two years.

The U's leading goalscorer picked up Gavin Massey's pass on the edge of the area and planted a fine shot into the far corner of the net to score with four minutes to go.

Colchester had trailed just 55 seconds in when Sam Clucas planted a shot past Sam Walker after U's defender Frankie Kent had been hit in the face with the ball from point-blank range, leaving him on the floor.

Kent was stretchered off after four minutes of treatment on the pitch but later appeared on the home side's bench.

Clucas and Ollie Banks both came close to adding to Chesterfield's lead before the break but were unable to double their tally.

And Rhys Healey equalised five minutes after coming off the bench as a half-time substitute when he finished emphatically from Sanchez Watt's pass, before Sears netted Colchester's late winner in style.
