Blackburn vs Birmingham preview - Rovers sweating on Hanley

Blackburn are keeping their fingers crossed that captain Grant Hanley can replace Matt Kilgallon at the heart of their defence against managerless Birmingham.

Rovers skipper Hanley missed Saturday's draw at Ipswich with the knee problem he sustained while away on international duty with Scotland, but he was training again at the back end of last week.

His presence in the centre of the back four is of paramount importance because Kilgallon will serve a one-match suspension following his dismissal against the Tractor Boys.

Norwegian winger Josh King (back) also picked up a problem while representing his country but it is hoped he could be in line for a return at Ewood Park, yet Blackburn remain without Paul Robinson (knee), Jason Lowe (foot), Chris Brown (knee) and Tommy Spurr (groin).

Birmingham begin life after Lee Clark following his exit on Monday, with caretakers Richard Beale and Malcolm Crosby taking charge.

Clark lost his job after just two wins in 12 games this season and he is followed out of the club by assistant Steve Watson.

Colin Doyle will replace the suspended Darren Randolph in goal after the keeper was sent off in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Bolton.

Midfielder David Davis should be fit despite taking a bang on the hip and being forced off at St Andrew's.
