Oxford vs Tranmere preview - Holmes-Dennis in U's frame

Oxford could hand a debut to new signing Tareiq Holmes-Dennis as they look to bounce back from their 5-1 drubbing at Cambridge against Tranmere.

The left-back arrived on loan from Charlton on Thursday to add more options down the left flank and he is eligible to make his United debut against Rovers.

He could be joined in the 18 by Alfie Potter, who made his return to action after missing the last two games with a groin injury as they ran out 12-0 winners against an Army Under-23 side in a midweek friendly.

Striker James Roberts, who made his U's debut last weekend, scored five times in that match to stake his claim while fellow forward Carlton Morris netted for parent club Norwich in an Under-21 win over Tottenham in front of over 10,000 fans this week.

Bottom-of-the-table Tranmere begin life under Micky Adams at the Kassam Stadium after he replaced the axed Rob Edwards on Thursday.

The vastly-experienced Adams comes to the Prenton Park hot-seat needing to lift his new team off the Football League's basement following Edwards' miserable start to his managerial life.

One of Edwards' last acts was to reveal striker Cole Stockton (pelvis) could be out for another six weeks, while defensive trio Danny Woodards (foot), Matt Hill (Achilles) and Liam Ridehalgh (ankle) are all long-term absentees.

Adams will be able to call upon goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams again after he returned from international duty with Wales.
