Chesterfield vs Oldham preview - Selection poser for Cook

Posted Friday, October 17, 2014 by PA

Chesterfield have no new worries ahead of the visit of Oldham but Blues boss Paul Cook faces a few tricky selection decisions.

Against Bristol City last weekend, Sam Clucas was recalled on the left in place of Jay O'Shea - who was unfortunate not to start. Clucas and O'Shea, plus the fit again Ollie Banks and Dan Gardner, will contest a single midfield spot alongside Daniel Johnson and Gary Roberts.

Roberts managed 75 minutes of the 3-2 defeat at Ashton Gate as he continues to get back to full fitness after a few weeks of hamstring problems, but another week of training should see him almost back to his best.

Defenders Sam Hird (knee) and Drew Talbot (groin) remain out for the Spireites.

Oldham's top scorer Jonathan Forte is set to return to the in-form Latics' starting XI.

The 28-year-old, who has scored seven times in 10 games to date, has a persistent knee problem but is slated to make his first start in three games as Conor Wilkinson's loan spell is now over.

Latics are on a 10-game unbeaten run and will have their defensive options swelled by Genseric Kusunga's return from international duty, although both George Elokobi (thigh) and Adam Lockwood (foot) will not start training again until the early part of next week.

Should Oldham avoid defeat, they would set a new record for the longest unbeaten streak of Lee Johnson's spell in charge.
