Crawley Town 1 : 4 Peterborough United - Posh push into top two

Peterborough roared back from going behind very early on to climb to second in Sky Bet League One with a convincing 4-1 victory over Crawley at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.

Leading scorer Izale McLeod gave Crawley the perfect start to put them into the lead after only two minutes, but Posh showed plenty of fighting spirit to score four times inside 58 minutes.

Former MK Dons striker McLeod had drawn first blood, though, driving in a low shot following a neat pass by Gavin Tomlin.

Peterborough hit back to level through defender Michael Smith, who pounced with a low shot after 11 minutes when keeper Jamie Ashdown could only parry an effort by Jermaine Anderson.

Crawley lost McLeod with a knee injury midway through the half before Red Devils defender Dean Leacock had a goal-bound shot tipped over by keeper Ben Alnwick.

Anderson and Jack Baldwin both went close for Posh before defender Christian Burgess put them ahead by heading in a Jon Taylor corner at the near post five minutes before the break.

Marcus Maddison increased Peterborough's lead 10 minutes after the interval when keeper Ashdown was caught out attempting a one-two with Keith Keane, and then a fierce right-foot shot from Conor Washington made it 4-1 in the 58th minute.

Posh threatened again when Joe Newell set up Washington and his shot was parried by Ashdown, who later kept out a rasping drive from Maddison.
