Hartlepool United FC 0 : 3 Carlisle - Pools drop to basement

Carlisle moved off the bottom of Sky Bet League Two with a 3-0 win over new basement club Hartlepool.
In a meeting of 22nd versus 24th, it was the visitors who came out on top at Victoria Park thanks to Steven Rigg and Stephen Elliott's first goals for the club, which were added to by a late Mark Beck strike.
The result heaped further pressure on Pools boss Colin Cooper, with his side languishing at the foot of the standings having collected just eight points from 11 games.
In a relatively quiet first half that brought just one clear chance apiece, it was the home side who should have been in front with Charlie Wyke failing to nod home a loose ball inside the six-yard box.
Both teams came out firing in the second period and Carlisle broke the deadlock in the 54th minute.
Hartlepool's failure to clear a long throw proved fatal as Rigg was left to poke into an empty net.
Cooper's side pressed forward in search of a leveller, only to fall further behind when Elliott engineered room in the box to fire into the bottom corner.
And a miserable afternoon for the hosts was capped with a minute remaining as Beck tapped home a simple third.
