Feyenoord Rotterdam 2 : 1 Standard Liege - Elvis the Manu for Feyenoord

Elvis Manu hit a late winner as Feyenoord beat Standard Liege 2-1 in Rotterdam to earn their first Europa League Group G victory.

Defender Sven van Beek had headed the hosts in front at the start of the second half, only for Jonathan Viera to equalise on 63 minutes.

However, Manu - after being denied by a string of fine saves from Standard goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima - secured all three points with seven minutes left.

The Dutch side, beaten away to Sevilla on Matchday One, had started brightly.

Midfielder Colin Kazim-Richards, who began his career in England at Bury, and forward Manu both went close.

On 16 minutes, Standard, victors over Croatian outfit Rijeka a fortnight ago, went on the offensive as midfielder Paul-Jose M'Poku shot wide.

At the other end, visiting keeper Kawashima brilliantly saved Manu's close-range effort and then a header from midfielder Lex Immers.

Manu fired over just before the break, but on 47 minutes Van Beek put Feyenoord when his glancing header at the near post looped over Kawashima.

Feyenoord midfielder Jordy Clasie sent an 18-yard effort over the crossbar as the hosts sought to increase their lead.

On the hour mark, Standard keeper Kenneth Vermeer saved from M'Poku, but could not prevent the visitors equalising soon afterwards as Viera turned the ball in from close range following a deflection in the penalty area.

Standard substitute Tony Watt shot across the face of goal, before Bilal Basacikoglu headed over for the hosts.

Standard midfielder Jeff Louis dragged his shot wide from the edge of the penalty area.

With 10 minutes left, Kawashima again denied Manu, before the Dutch forward found a late winner when he converted Kazim-Richards' cross through a crowded penalty area.
