Crawley Town 2 : 0 Yeovil Town - Marvellous Marvin at the double

Posted Sunday, September 28, 2014 by PA

Marvin Elliott scored twice in the space of two second-half minutes on his home debut to secure Crawley a 2-0 victory over Yeovil.

John Gregory's side improved after a poor first half to claim only their second win in the last eight league games.

Yeovil should have been ahead by the interval and Crawley had a let off after only 12 minutes when Joel Grant fired against the post with goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown beaten.

Jimmy Smith put a header wide from a cross by Josh Simpson for goal-shy Crawley before Keiffer Moore blazed wastefully over with only Ashdown to beat following a through ball from Ajay Leitch-Smith.

Former Portsmouth and Reading goalkeeper Ashdown kept Crawley on terms by superbly saving a header from Grant and later parried a rasping goal-bound drive from Nathan Ralph shortly before the break.

Crawley came out for the second half in a more business-like fashion and midfielder Elliott gave them the lead after 57 minutes by powerfully heading in a cross by Gwion Edwards at the far post.

Elliott, who had a trial with Yeovil in the summer after his release from Bristol City, struck again to double his side's advantage two minutes later by firing in a cross from Smith at close range.

Crawley striker Izale McLeod, after being thwarted by Yeovil goalkeeper Jake Kean in a one-on-one situation, shot narrowly wide as the hosts continued to threaten.

Ashdown ensured Crawley a clean sheet by keeping out a header from Aaron Martin two minutes from time.
