Chesterfield 1 : 1 Notts County - County singing Carroll praises

Posted Sunday, September 28, 2014 by PA

Notts County goalkeeper Roy Carroll made a string of great saves as his side held Chesterfield to a 1-1 draw.

The visitors took the lead through Blair Adams, but Georg Margreitter headed a second-half equaliser for Chesterfield and Carroll had to be at his best to deny them a winner.

County were close to scoring after only 42 seconds, but home goalkeeper Tommy Lee leapt to his right to claw out a header from Zeli Ismail.

But Lee was beaten in the 14th minute when Chesterfield failed to close down Adams and the midfielder drilled a low shot into Lee's bottom left-hand corner.

Jay O'Shea scuffed a Sam Clucas cross wide in the 20th minute before Adams struck the inside of a post three minutes later, while Armand Gnanduillet twice went close for Chesterfield near the end of the first half.

County twice escaped in the 50th minute when an Eoin Doyle shot was blocked and Carroll saved Gnanduillet's follow-up, but Chesterfield deservedly equalised in the 62nd minute when Margreitter headed in a corner from 10 yards.

Chesterfield defender Ian Evatt cleared Shaun Harrod's shot off the line and Carroll saved well from Doyle, Daniel Johnson and Dan Gardner as Chesterfield pressed for a winner.
