Cowdenbeath 2 : 1 Queen of South - Miners dig deep for vital win

Posted Sunday, September 28, 2014 by PA

Cowdenbeath secured their first three points of the season in seven attempts with a 2-1 win against mid-table Queen of the South.

Despite first-half goals from Dundee United loanee Kudus Oyenuga and Calum Gallaghers proving enough to provide a much-needed victory, the Miners still remain rooted to the bottom of the Scottish Championship table.

Jimmy Nicholl's side needed just 28 minutes to open the scoring when Oyenuga converted from inside the penalty area before Gallagher added his second goal in as many games to give the hosts a two-goal advantage at the break.

Mark Durman headed Ian McShane's cross beyond Robbie Thompson to offer the visitors hope with little over 60 minutes played but Cowdenbeath held out in a nervy final half hour to kick-start their faltering season.
