The Gunners boss was frustrated after his side conceded a late equaliser in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Manchester City while the right-back faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines
Arsene Wenger bemoaned Arsenal’s "cheap" defending and admitted his side must improve at the back following their 2-2 home draw with Manchester City on Saturday.
The Gunners responded to Sergio Aguero’s first-half strike to take the lead thanks to goals after the break from Jack Wilshere and Alexis Sanchez.
But City defender Martin Demichelis scored a late header from a corner to earn the Premier League holders a point.
"It was a game of top quality and we did remarkably well to come back but then we gave a cheap goal away,” Wenger told reporters.
"The only disappointing thing for me is the way we conceded the second goal. We are an offensive team. We go forward a lot but we can improve defensively.”
Wenger confirmed that Mathieu Debuchy suffered a sprained ankle in the second-half and was pessimistic about the right-back’s prognosis - but the 64-year-old praised the performance of £16 million debutant Danny Welbeck.
He added: “Debuchy has a badly sprained ankle. He will need a bit more time before we can assess [the extent of the injury]. I don’t know how long he will be out but it doesn’t look too good.”
"Welbeck did okay. It was sad that he didn’t take his chance in the first-half but overall he looked dangerous. There are some things to work on with him but I’m happy with Welbeck’s game.”
