Arsenal star gets Manchester United pay day
WEL PAID: Danny pocket a nice £1.5m pay off from United after being forced out by new boss Louis Van Gaal

Danny Welbeck's move from Manchester United to Arsenal was sealed by a £1.5million Old Trafford pay-off.

The England striker moved to Arsenal for £16m shortly before the transfer window closed.

But he wanted a settlement on his United contract after being forced out as part of new-boss Louis van Gaal's Old Trafford shake-up.

A compromise figure was eventually agreed before Welbeck, 23, made the move to The Emirates.

The transfer was also delayed until close to the deadline because United would not sanction the sale until their own deal to sign Radamel Falcao, on loan from Monaco, was completed.

Falcao had to come through a stringent medical after the knee injury which kept him out of Colombia's squad at the World Cup.

Meanwhile former England striker Emile Heskey has predicted a bright future for Welbeck under the guidance of Gunners' boss Arsene Wenger

Heskey, 36, said: "He has got the ability to do well at Arsenal. I think their style of play will suit him. People don't realise how good he is."

"His ability on the ball, his movement and his pace, those three things will help you, especially in an Arsenal team."

"He seems like a player who actually listens to what his manager wants. He will be exciting for Arsenal."
