The Argentine's agent went on to say: "Angel wanted to stay. The difference was €1 million per year. Real began the negotiations but did not want them to advance".

Ángel di María's agent, Eugenio López, spoke on 'El Partido de las 12' on radio station COPE. The representative of 'El Fideo' came to the defence of his player and said he wanted to stay at Real Madrid and did not leave for financial reasons. "Di María signed for Manchester United with a net salary of €8 million. He would have stayed at Real for much less", López said.

The Argentine's agent went on to say: "Ángel wanted to stay. The difference was €1 million per year. Real began the negotiations but did not want them to advance". López criticised the club's attitude towards the player: "When he joined Real he accepted a lower salary than the one agreed. Then he was promised an improved contract after six months, but they took two years to do it".

Di María signed for the Red Devils from 'Los Blancos' during the final days of the transfer window. The Argentine international says his intention was always to stay at Real Madrid despite the fact that both first-team manager Carlos Ancelotti and club president Florentino Pérez stated that the player specifically asked to leave. The winger also added that his relationship with Pérez was practically "non-existent" in an interview on an Argentinian radio station and also that a player "has to leave the club when he is not wanted".
