Arsenal target Adrien Rabiot still wants to leave Paris Saint-Germain, according to the French club's president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
But, according to sources in France, the player's representatives could open talks with Roma over a January switch as early as next week.
Arsene Wenger is a big fan of midfielder Rabiot, who is well down the pecking order at the Parc des Princes.
It was suggested that the Gunners were on the verge of sealing a summer transfer deal for the 19-year-old, but he eventually stayed put in Paris when the window shut.
But he is expected to finally move on in the New Year and Al-Khelaifi admits he cannot make him stay in the French capital.
He told L'Equipe: "We discussed with Roma and with other clubs during the window, but nothing was agreed."
"I love this player, he has a great talent, he comes from our training centre, I am proud of him and I want to keep him."
"For over a year, we have discussed extending his contract but he does not want to do it."
"He wants to go."
