Manchester United confirm £14million Blind capture

Manchester United have announced the signing of Netherlands international Daley Blind from Ajax in a £14million deal.
The 24-year-old arrived at Old Trafford on Monday evening fresh from being named Dutch player of the year, and is reunited with former international coach Louis van Gaal after signing a four-year contract with the Red Devils, with the option to extend for a further year.
Blind, who can play in midfield as well as at the back, was a key member of Ajax’s Eredivisie title-winning side last season and also impressed for Holland in their run to the semi-finals at the summer’s World Cup.
The son of Netherlands assistant and former Ajax captain Danny, Blind thrived under Van Gaal’s stewardship in Brazil and is familiar with the coach’s preferred three-man defensive formation.
In a statement on the club’s official website, the new Red Devils star said: "It is a real honour to sign for Manchester United.
"I have been at Ajax since I was seven years old and I will always have very fond memories of the club and of my time there.
"Louis van Gaal is a tremendously talented coach, I have worked with him at Ajax and also for the Netherlands national team and I cannot wait to work with him at the biggest club in the world."
United boss Van Gaal added: "I am delighted Daley has signed for the club.
"He is a very intelligent and versatile footballer that can play in many positions.
"Daley is a great reader of the game, he has played under my philosophy over a number of years and he will be a great addition to the team."
The deal puts Van Gaal’s summer spending up to just shy of £150million, almost as much as the club have spent in total over the past five years.
And they are not done there, with a deal for Colombia striker Radamel Falcao also expected to be announced before the 11pm transfer deadline.
