Atalanta vs Hellas Verona preview - Colantuono expects winning start

Atalanta coach Stefano Colantuono has warned opponents Hellas Verona his side are ready to hit the ground running ahead of their opening Serie A clash on Sunday.

The Bergamaschi enjoyed a decent campaign last season, finishing 11th in the table, and will be keen to emulate that achievement.

Colantuono, who is in his fifth season in charge of the Bergamo-based outfit, is optimistic ahead of the new campaign.

"The team are in good shape and we know we can hold our own against anyone," he said.

"The club have worked well in the transfer market and I have a competitive group. We have worked hard in pre-season.

"Now the important thing is to get off on the right foot. The team are ready and we are counting on starting well."

Atalanta fans have reason to be confident, with the club retaining the services of top scorer German Denis despite reported interest from Juventus.

The 32-year-old Argentinian scored 13 goals last season in 37 appearances for his club.

Verona will not intimidated by Atalanta when they travel to the Atleti Azzurri d'Italia stadium despite losing two of their top stars this summer.

Hellas sold Argentinian winger Juan Manuel Iturbe to Roma while Brazilian midfielder Romulo joined Juventus.

Andrea Mandorlini's side, who finished one place and four points clear of Atalanta last season, have strengthened their defensive line with the signing of Mexico captain Rafa Marquez and the arrival of Spanish full-back Antonio Luna on a season-long loan dean from Aston Villa.

Hellas received a further boost ahead of this weekend's clash with a 3-0 triumph over Cremonese in the Coppa Italia on Monday.

Veteran striker Luca Toni, who was last season's second highest goalscorer in Serie A with 20 goals, will lead Hellas' attack this weekend.
