Peterborough continued their impressive start to the season by registering a third successive league away win with a 3-1 victory at struggling Colchester.
Posh missed a fourth-minute penalty when Colchester goalkeeper Sam Walker saved Conor Washington's spot-kick after Sammie Szmodics had handled Kyle Vassell's free-kick.
Posh goalkeeper Ben Alnwick then denied Gavin Massey and Ben Gordon in quick succession, before Posh took a 20th-minute lead when Washington raced on to Christian Burgess's pass and converted.
Peterborough doubled their advantage five minutes later through Kgosi Ntlhe, who finished well after Joe Newell had caused problems in the area.
Walker twice denied Vassell before Alex Gilbey's thunderbolt rattled the crossbar.
Sears pulled a 64th-minute goal back for Colchester when he exchanged passes with substitute Sanchez Watt, before firing home.
But Peterborough restored their two-goal advantage with 13 minutes to go through Jermaine Anderson, who converted from five yards from Washington's low cross.
Ntlhe was dismissed for a second bookable offence with nine minutes remaining, but Peterborough claimed another victory.
