Fleetwood Town 0 : 0 Chesterfield - Cod Army hang on to net a point

The woodwork denied Chesterfield a victory over early pace-setters Fleetwood as it ended in a 0-0 draw at Highbury.

The visitors dominated the opening 45 minutes but through a combination of bad luck and poor finishing they could not find the back of the net.

The home side were almost architects of their own downfall when two defenders collided looking to stop Eioin Doyle's tame effort, Chris Maxwell scrambling back to clear it on the line.

Gary Roberts was the Spireites real danger man, only too keen to exploit space in the middle of Fleetwood's midfield diamond.

When he robbed Steven Schumacher, Doyle could only flash a shot across the face of goal. Roberts provided again seconds later only for Jay O'Shea to blast straight into the arms of Maxwell.

Fleetwood upped the tempo after the break and created chances of their own without ever really testing Tommy Lee in the Chesterfield goal.

Gareth Evans forced a save from distance after some good work from David Ball, who was Fleetwood's main attacking threat throughout.

His strike partner, Jamie Proctor, prolific in Town's opening to the campaign found himself shackled - a half chance from another Ball cross his best effort of the afternoon.

But it was Paul Cook's visitors who should have snatched it at the death, two substitutes combining to open up Fleetwood.

A blast from Ollie Banks was well saved by Maxwell, the loose ball fell to Armand Gnanduillet who beat the keeper only to see his shot come back off the woodwork.

Daniel Jones hit the bar from distance with seconds remaining as Fleetwood clung on to preserve their unbeaten record.
