Eintracht Frankfurt vs SC Freiburg preview - Attractiveness matters to Schaaf

Eintracht Frankfurt coach Thomas Schaaf hopes to see attractive football from his team this season - and believes the rest will then just fall into place.

Asked to put a number to where he wants his side to finish this season, the former Werder Bremen coach - embarking on his first season at a club other than the northern Germans - said he would much prefer to be judged on the quality of his side's football.

"I know you want me to tell you what league position I want, but I don't think we should just focus so much on that but rather prioritise our performances," Schaaf said at a press conference.

"What's important is that we establish ourselves in a safe position and not have to have anything to do with the lower regions of the league."

Victory over Freiburg at the Waldstadion on Saturday would be the perfect way to start the season and Schaaf expects as much.

"We're well prepared for this game," he continued. "I expect us to put in a lot of effort and motivation, and of course I hope we will show all of our quality and strength.

"Freiburg run a lot and they are quick in their transitions, combining well.

"We've got to break that down early on, but at the same time, it's important that we focus on our own game."

The biggest headache Freiburg coach Christian Streich has is who to choose in goal.

He picked Roman Burki for the last pre-season friendly against Stoke and Sebastian Mielitz, who worked under Schaaf at Bremen, for the DFB-Pokal win over Eintracht Trier last week.

"They don't know who I will choose yet, so I'd prefer not to say anything," Streich said on his club's website.

"But it's a difficult decision. We've seen good performances from both of them lately.

"There are two or three positions I am not yet sure about and that depends on our opponents, their system and which players they have in which position."

Swiss goalkeeper Burki is likely to be given the nod, however, as the successor to Oliver Baumann in the Freiburg goal.
