Burton Albion FC 2 : 1 Dagenham and Redbridge - Kee at the double to down Daggers
Posted Sunday, August 17, 2014 by PA
Billy Kee scored twice in four minutes late in the game to clinch a 2-1 victory for Burton over Dagenham.
Veteran striker Jamie Cureton gave the visitors a deserved first-half lead but Burton boss Gary Rowett saw his substitutions pay dividends.
Kee struck from the penalty spot in the 84th minute and bagged the winner two minutes from the end to leave the Daggers still pointless.
The visitors controlled the opening stages and took the lead in the 18th minute as Cureton punished a napping Burton defence by nipping onto an Ashley Hemmings header and steering a low shot past Jon McLaughlin.
Burton looked livelier after the break and Daggers goalkeeper Liam O'Brien did well to parry an Alex MacDonald shot before the visitors survived a scramble on the edge of their six-yard box.
The hosts sent on last season's top scorer Kee and he made the most of his opportunity to open his account for the new campaign when he drilled home from the spot after fellow substitute Marcus Harness had been tripped in the area by Luke Howell.
Kee then turned on a Harness cross to fire the winner into the bottom corner.
