Liverpool have finally made a breakthrough in their bid to sign Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno after agreeing a £12million fee, which could rise with add-ons, with Sevilla.
The Reds have been chasing the 22-year-old defender all summer but have continually been frustrated in their efforts to bring in the three-times capped international.
However, Brendan Rodgers' side appear to be a step closer to getting their man and on Tuesday night Moreno was withdrawn from Sevilla's UEFA Super Cup match against Real Madrid.
"Liverpool can confirm they have reached an agreement with Sevilla for the transfer of Spain international full-back Alberto Moreno," a statement on the club's website said.
"The Reds will proceed with the formalities of finalising the deal for the 22-year-old over the coming days and will make no further announcement until it is complete."
The defender is expected to arrive on Merseyside later this week to complete a medical and finalise his move to Anfield, while current Liverpool defender Martin Kelly is expected to join Crystal Palace in a £1.5m deal, which could rise to £2m.
Moreno will become the Reds' eighth summer signing following the arrivals of Rickie Lambert, Emre Can, Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic, Dejan Lovren, Divock Origi and Javier Manquillo.
The Spaniard is likely to vie with compatriot Jose Enrique to be Rodgers' first-choice left back at Anfield.
