The Real Madrid defender, Alvaro Arbeloa, has apologised on Twitter for the retweet he made days earlier about a book which discussed the possibility of a shake-up in the 'Merengue' ranks and which doled out some harsh criticism for Iker Casillas.

Hours after the controversy, the full back took to Twitter to apologise for the misunderstanding and assured that his mistake was to have promoted the book without having read it in full.

"I've never spoken ill of a teammate and, of course, on this occasion I had no intention of doing so through others", wrote the Spanish defender, who also made the most of the opportunity to apologise to his captain, Iker Casillas, and all of the Madrid fans who he offended.
