Javier Hernandez's agent has held talks with Inter Milan according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who confirmed the Manchester United striker is firmly on the radar of Inter manager Walter Mazzarri.
On his website, Di Marzio suggests the meeting, which took place on Wednesday after United had beaten Inter on penalties in the International Champions Cup, highlighted the Serie A's side appreciation for Hernandez but negotiations are yet to begin.
The Mexican started just 15 Premier League games over the last two seasons and was given limited opportunities by David Moyes last season and lost his place in his Mexico's starting XI as a result, fuelling speculations his Old Trafford career might be coming to an end.
Louis Van Gaal's reputation for favouring dynamic, technically gifted strikers did little to dismiss the rumours linking Hernandez with a move away from United and Inter Milan had emerged as one of the possible destinations for the 26-year-old, with former United captain Nemanja Vidic last week claiming that it would be "a dream" to play with his former teammate again.
