Angry fans tell Luis Suarez to DIE after leaving Liverpool to join Barcelona

The star striker, 27, quit Anfield to join Barcelona for £75m. He has signed a five-year deal at the Nou Camp and will wear the No.9 shirt.

Suarez threatened to leave Liverpool last summer but the Reds refused to sell him.

However, he was today granted his wish to move to Barca.

The move went down badly with Liverpool supporters devastated to see their star man going.

Furious keyboard warriors tweeted messages to Suarez himself through his account @luis16suarez.

One wrote: "die you C***!!!" while another added: "Die. @luis16suarez."

One foul-mouthed supporter tweeted Suarez and said: "you are a c*** I hope you die #ynwa."

Another wrote: "hope you die @luis16suarez #f***you."

Suarez paid tribute to the Reds fans in a statement released this afternoon.

He wrote: "It is with a heavy heart that I leave Liverpool for a new life and new challenges in Spain. Both me and my family have fallen in love with this club and with the city."

"But most of all I have fallen in love with the incredible fans. You have always supported me and we, as a family, will never forget it, we will always be Liverpool supporters."

"I hope you can all understand why I have made this decision."
