REAL SOCIEDAD are in talks with Arsenal over obtaining the full rights to Mexican forward Carlos Vela.
STAYING PUT: Real Sociedad are hopeful of securing a deal to obtain the full rights to striker Carlos Vela
Arsenal currently hold a buy-back clause in the £2.5m deal which took Vela to Sociedad in 2012.
The clause would enable Arsenal to re-sign Vela, who has just enjoyed the most productive campaign of his career netting 21 times, for a scant £3.5m.
Arsene Wenger is said to be interested in bringing the 25-year-old back to the Emirates Stadium this summer as he aims to bolster a forward line which was heavily reliant on Olivier Giroud last season.
But according to reports in Spain, Sociedad have begun discussions over scrapping Arsenal's buy-back clause.
£8M MAN: Sociedad must splash the cash if Arsenal are to relinquish their buy-back clause
Sociedad will, however, need to splash the cash to acquire the full rights to Vela with Arsenal demanding £8m to sever all ties with the striker.
The Basque club are aware of growing interest in Vela.
Arsenal as well as Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid have been monitoring Vela's situation with a view to stepping up their pursuit.
The report also claims if Sociedad are successful in clinching a deal with Arsenal, they intend to make Vela their highest paid player by offering him a new four-year contract worth £10m in total.
