LOUIS VAN GAAL is desperate to bring Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman to Manchester United - and here's everything you need to know about him.

The 24-year-old has spent months on the treatment table but that hasn't put off the new United boss.

Dutchman Strootman, whose cruciate ligament injury has ruled him out of the World Cup, will set United back around £30m.

Strootman is one of a number of players Van Gaal is lining up.

United could also move for Luke Shaw, William Carvalho and Mats Hummels as he bids to strengthen his squad.

However, a move for Cesc Fabregas looks unlikely. The Spaniard is moving closer to a Chelsea switch.
