Van Persie’s father admits he could stay with Manchester United for life

Robin Van Persie‘s father has claimed his son will remain at Manchester United until at least the end of his current contract, but said he could return to the club where it all began for a short period as well after it expires before potentially coming back to Old Trafford as a coach.

The 30-year-old spent two seasons with Excelsior based in the Kralingen-Crooswijk district of Rotterdam before moving across town to join Feyenoord’s youth team aged only 13, but he made such a big impact on his first team that their home ground has a stand named after the United striker.

In an interview for Blizzard magazine, which was also published on The Guardian, Bob Van Persie said his son will remain at United at least until his current contract expires.

"When his contract end in Manchester he’ll be 33," he said.

"As long as he’s fit enough – and I’m sure he will be – he’ll stay in Manchester. Then he’ll go back to Excelsior. Money will never be an issue."

"Robin is hyperactive. He was like that as a kid and always will be like that. He needs football to burn his energy and he’ll be like that for the rest of his life."

"So he’s got to look forwards. I think he’ll probably always be loyal to Excelsior, Arsenal and Manchester United. Those clubs are like home. I think Robin will finish his career in Excelsior and then go back to London or Manchester as a coach. That will be his next goal in life: to be the best coach in the world. I hope we have to wait years for that moment. Let’s enjoy watching him play a little more."

After a superb debut season at Old Trafford, which saw him named United’s Player of the Season after winning his first Premier League title, the former Arsenal captain was troubled by injury in his second campaign at the club and was forced to miss out large spells of the season, as United stuttered in David Moyes‘ inaugural campaign.

Rumours of a growing malaise between Moyes and the Dutchman led to increasing speculation that Van Persie might have to find himself a new club in the summer, but after the appointment of Louis Van Gaal, Van Persie has looked like a completely reinvigorated man and publicly declared his desire to remain at United.

Van Gaal should be a new lease of life for Van Persie at Old Trafford and by the sounds of it, he could be at United way past the end of his playing career.
